The Minister for Communications recently launched the Sampoorna Bima Gram Yojana (SBGY) and an initiative for expansion of clientele base of Postal Life Insurance (PLI).

The Minister said that the vision of the Prime Minister to provide banking services through the postal network needs to be taken forward to provide affordable life insurance services to people living in rural areas of the country.

Under SBGY, at least one village (having a minimum of 100 households) will be identified in each of the revenue districts of the country, wherein endeavour will be made to cover all households of that identified village with a minimum of one RPLI (Rural Postal Life Insurance) policy each.

Under the scheme expansion of clientele base of PLI, it has now been decided that benefits of PLI will no more be confined to Government and semi-Government employees, but will also be available to professionals such as Doctors, Engineers, Management Consultants, Charted Accountants, Architects, Lawyers, Bankers etc. The decision has been taken to enlarge the cover of social security and bring maximum number of people under the protection of Postal Life Insurance (PLI). Low Premium and High Bonus is the unique feature of both, the PLI and RPLI schemes.

For better planning and monitoring of government projects, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the Bhuvan Panchayat web portal's version 3.0. For the first time, a thematic data base on a 1:10,00 scale for the entire country is available with integrated high resolution satellite data for planning. In the project that will last for at least two years, ISRO will collaborate with the gram panchayat members and stakeholders to understand their data requirements. The third version of the portal will provide database visualisation and services for the benefit of panchayat members, among others. The project is meant to provide geo-spatial services to aid gram panchayat development planning process of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The Web Geo portal is an easy to use Geo portal developed for database visualization, data analytics, generation of automatic reports, model based products and services for the benefit of Gram Panchayat members and other stake holders. The targeted audience for this portal is Public, PRIs and different stakeholders belonging to the gram panchayats.

  • The CSIR Aroma Mission is envisaged to bring transformative change in the aroma sector through desired interventions. It is aimed at development of superior aroma crop varieties and their agro-technologies and assessment of their suitability for the large scale cultivation in specific agro-climatic regions;

  • Popularization of superior varieties and agro-technologies, and assessment of their suitability for specific climatic regions.
  • Promotion of cultivation and processing of aromatic crops, enhancing area under selected aromatic crops through enabling interventions including setting up of distillation units.
  • Value-addition to aromatic crops (process development and chemical/biological transformations for the production of high-value aroma chemicals and products).
  • Organisation of various skill development activities to empower farmers and promote entrepreneurship.
  • Dissemination of mission activities and achievements using appropriate interfaces (graphical and digital).
